Cosmetic Gum Surgery involves removing excess gum tissue. This is also called a gum lift. This may be done for aesthetic purposes, or to prepare for other cosmetic work, such as placement of veneers.
How is gum contouring performed?
Gum surgery, or a gum lift, is a procedure done by dentists to help reshape the gums. This may be done for patients who have gums that have not receded enough, or for patients who have a lot of gum that shows when they smile.
How do gum lifts work?
Normally done on the front teeth, a gum lift may be recommended when patients are having other cosmetic procedures performed. Your dentist will administer a local anesthetic to the area before the reshaping. He or she will cut and reshape the gum line using a laser.
When do I get back to normal?
The gum shaping procedure can be done in one appointment. You will need to take care of the area to avoid infection. Within a day you will be able to drink and eat normally. Our office may recommend a follow up appointment to see your healing progress.
